On March 28, a TIR(Transports Internationaux Routiers) cross-border trucking service carrying cold chain storage equipment departed from the Hohhot Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Inner Mongolia, marking the official launch of the Hohhot-Ulaanbaatar TIR international transport route.

The outbound cargo covers a one-way distance of 1,100 kilometers, with a total round-trip duration of approximately three days. Customs clearance procedures, including declaration and inspection, are completed in a “one-stop” process at the highway transportation customs supervision site within the Hohhot Comprehensive Bonded Zone, allowing seamless customs clearance. The TIR cross-border trucks exit China via the Erenhot port, pass through Zamiin-Uud in Mongolia, and reach Ulaanbaatar with no transshipment or vehicle change along the route.

“This is a brand-new international cross-border road transport route developed by the Hohhot Comprehensive Bonded Zone, marking the official operation of the city’s first highway transportation customs supervision site and adding a new corridor for Hohhot’s high-quality contribution to the Belt and Road Initiative,” said Baatarbayar, Deputy Director of the Hohhot Comprehensive Bonded Zone Administration Committee.

According to Baatarbayar, the launch of this TIR international transport route has established an efficient China-Mongolia cross-border road transport channel.

“Leveraging the efficiency of the TIR system and the advantages of the bonded zone’s highway transportation customs supervision site, local and regional enterprises engaging in multimodal transport, international trade, and cross-border e-commerce can improve transportation efficiency by over 200% and cut logistics costs by more than 50%.”
