OTR tire manufacturers use different tire compounds to guide what a tire should be chosen for a specific purpose. Each type of compound has its own features when it comes to resistance against heat build-up and cuts.
Typically, there are mainly 3 types of compounds:
Cut-resistance compound: High resistance to wear and cut
Standard: A compromise between cut-resistance and heat-resistance
Heat-resistance compound: High resistance to heat build-up in long distance haulage
